'Cheko y su Combo' is a nostalgic latin jazz trio that brings a sophisticated rootsy vibe to the romantic classics of central and south America. From bossa nova to bolero, bachata and cumbia, the band keeps the smooth and groovy vibes flowing whether on a festival mainstage, in a restaurant lounge or at a backyard dance party. Fans of Afro Brazilian, Mexican, And Columbian music will hear their favourites in the set.
Hailing from Mexico, Cheko Soto is an accomplished international musician, having played with numerous bands from the Americas and Europe.
Originally from Germany, composer and bass player Annette Brosin has been living and working on Coast Salish and now Cowichan territory on Vancouver Island since 2009. She feels most content with a bass in her hands.
Percussionist Dan Beer has been working in various folk and world music genres for decades with a special interest in adapting Afro-Brazilian rhythms to the drum set. He is also at home on the cajon (peruvian box drum used in flamenco), and is currently focussing on its role in the acoustic latin jazz trio.
Booking 'Cheko y su Combo' starts here with choosing a date and telling us about your requirements. Performances can be one, two, or three hours in length. Individual sets can be tailored to mood or style, such as a mellow folkloric set followed by a dance party set. We can provide our own sound system or plug into yours. Our small footprint fits us easily in a corner of your restaurant, or your livingroom.
